Very few shops sell Lanmaoa asiatica. It grows wild in the pine forests of Yunnan, it has never been cultivated, and most of the harvest is eaten in Yunnan within a few days of picking. If you have searched for “Lanmaoa asiatica for sale” and found mostly news stories about hallucinations, that is why.
MycoRova sells it in three forms. This page explains what each one is, what it costs, and how buying works from different countries.
What you can buy
| Form | Price | When | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh | $46 per kg online | Rainy season, roughly June to September | Specialty food importers, restaurants |
| Dried caps and slices | Quoted by grade and quantity | All year | Importers, distributors, food businesses |
| Authenticated research material | Quoted per order | All year, from identified collections | Universities and laboratories |
For comparison, fresh Lanmaoa asiatica trades at roughly $21 to $71 per kg in Yunnan’s wild-mushroom markets, depending on size, condition and how far into the season it is.
How to buy Lanmaoa asiatica
In the United States, fresh mushrooms can be ordered on the Lanmaoa asiatica product page during the season. Choose “Fresh”, enter the kilos you need and check out. Orders ship chilled by express courier.
Everywhere else, and for dried or research material, buying goes through a quote. Import rules for wild fungi differ by country and by form: dried mushrooms are accepted in places where fresh ones are not. We check what can be sent to your country before we give a price. Request a quote with the form, quantity and destination, and we reply with a price per kg, lead time and the documents your country asks for.
Laboratories should use the research material quote and tell us the institution and intended use. Research material comes with collection data and identification records, and we review each order before quoting.
What to check before you buy from any shop
Lanmaoa asiatica belongs to a group of red boletes that Yunnan markets sell together as jian shou qing, “turns blue when touched”. Several similar species are sold under that name. Before you pay, ask the seller for:
- The scientific name on the invoice, not only a market name.
- The country and province of harvest, and the harvest year for dried lots.
- For research use, the identification method (morphology, DNA sequencing or both).
- Moisture content for dried caps: below 12% keeps them stable in storage.
A seller who cannot answer these is probably reselling an unidentified mix.
How to recognise it
The cap is reddish brown, the pore surface underneath is yellow, and the stem is flushed red. Cut flesh turns blue within seconds. Mycologists Gang Wu and Zhu L. Yang described it as a new species in 2015, and later DNA work matched it to a mushroom collected in the Cordillera of northern Luzon in the Philippines. Our Lanmaoa asiatica guide for importers and researchers covers the taxonomy and the published research in more detail.
Storage and cooking
Fresh Lanmaoa asiatica keeps 3 to 5 days at 0 to 4 °C. Dried caps keep up to 12 months sealed, cool and dark.
It must be cooked thoroughly. Hospital reports from Yunnan link raw or undercooked meals to visual disturbances, including seeing small figures, which is why the species is sometimes called the “lilliputian mushroom”. In Yunnan it is stir-fried until cooked through. Research material is supplied for laboratory use only, not for eating.
Can I grow it instead?
No. Lanmaoa asiatica only fruits in partnership with the roots of living pine trees, and no one has cultivated it commercially. We explain this, and what is being sold as a “grow kit”, in Lanmaoa asiatica grow kit: why there isn’t one.
Questions buyers ask
Is Lanmaoa asiatica legal to buy?
It is sold openly as a food mushroom in China. Whether you can import it depends on your country’s rules for wild fungi and on the form. We check this before quoting, and the buyer confirms it can be imported and used where they are.
Is it a psilocybin mushroom?
No. It is a bolete, and the compound behind the reported visual effects has not been identified. Pyrrole and furan derivatives have been isolated from it, but none has been shown to cause the effect. We sell it as food, to be cooked, and as research material.
Is there a minimum order?
Online orders start at 1 kg. Quoted orders state any minimum in the quote.
